A13VI Generator

  1. Mount generator in a suitable test stand according to test stand manufacturer's instructions. Ensure test stand is capable of driving generator at 6500 RPM.
  2. Ensure test stand battery is fully charged when performing test. Connect a DVOM across battery terminals. Connect a carbon pile load tester across battery terminals. Ensure carbon pile load tester is turned off. Connect BATT terminal of generator to an ammeter. Connect ammeter to the positive battery terminal. Connect "L" terminal of generator to a 50-ohm resistor. Connect other end of resistor to positive battery terminal.
  3. Slowly increase generator speed and observe voltage reading on DVOM. If voltage remains below 16 volts, go to next step. If voltage is uncontrolled and increases above 16 volts, replace generator.
  4. Increase generator speed. Adjust carbon pile load tester to obtain maximum amperage output while maintaining voltage above 13 volts. Observe amperage on ammeter and voltage on DVOM. If output is within 70 percent of rated output, generator is okay. If output is not within 70 percent of rated output, replace generator.
