Circuit Description

The Passlock® module receives the code from Hall Effect sensor in steering column and compares it to the code Passlock® module learned during first power up at the factory. If this code matches code stored in Passlock® module, module will send a fuel continue message to PCM. PCM enables fuel injection temporarily until fuel continue/disable decision is made. If module does not send a code or if PCM does not receive it, vehicle will not start (start and stall).

If Passlock® module and PCM lose communication with each other while engine is running, Passlock® module will fail-enable and allow driver to restart vehicle on future ignition cycles until communications between module and PCM are restored. If battery is disconnected during this period, vehicle will lose its fail-enable status and will no longer start until communications have been reestablished.

If Passlock® module and PCM lose communication with each other while engine is not running, system will disable fuel until communications are restored to prevent vehicle theft. In both cases, DTC P1626 will set. PCM will not disable fuel injection once it has been enabled within a given ignition cycle to prevent stalling as a result of Passlock® system faults.
