Test F: Power Sliding Door Unlatches But Does Not Open: Notes
NOTE:
General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1997-2001 Chevrolet Venture, Pontiac Montana/Trans Sport and Oldsmobile Silhouette model vehicles equipped with RPO E58, passenger side power sliding door. Some of these vehicles exhibit a condition in which sliding door closes, but is not latched. If power sliding door opens while vehicle is in motion, particularly when vehicle ascends a hill, makes a turn, or travels over a rough road surface, an unrestrained occupant could fall out of van and be injured. See National Highway Safety and Transportation Administration (NHTSA) safety recalls 01V067000 and 01V264000. Manufacturers safety recall campaign numbers are 01013 and 01059.
- If door diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If door diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform door diagnostic system check. See DOOR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Close Power Sliding Door (PSD). Turn PSD ON/OFF switch to ON position. Press either OPEN/CLOSE switch located in "B" pillar or overhead console. If PSD does not operate normally, go to next step. If PSD operates normally, diagnose intermittent condition. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - MONTANA, SILHOUETTE & VENTURE article.
- Turn PSD ON/OFF switch to OFF position. Manually close PSD. Using DVOM, measure voltage by backprobing optical sensor harness connector terminals No. 1 and 2. Manually open PSD. Voltage should be 5 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, go to step 13.
- Measure voltage by backprobing optical sensor harness connector terminals No. 1 and 3. Slowly move PSD from open to closed. Voltage should be 0.01-4.5 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, go to step 6.
- Measure voltage by backprobing optical sensor harness connector terminals No. 1 and 4. Slowly move PSD from closed to open. Voltage should be 0.01-4.5 volts. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, go to step 7.
- Check optical sensor pigtail harness or connector for damage. If problem does not exist, go to step 12. If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 15.
- Disconnect rear actuator 2-pin harness connector. Measure resistance between terminals "C" and "D" at rear actuator (component side). Resistance should be 1-3 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, go to step 11.
- With rear actuator motor harness connector disconnected, check continuity between ground and rear actuator motor harness connector terminals "C" and "D". If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, go to step 11.
- Disconnect rear actuator clutch 4-pin harness connector C3. Measure resistance between terminals "A" and "B" at rear actuator (component side). Resistance should be 2-5 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, go to step 11.
- With rear actuator clutch harness connector disconnected, check for continuity between ground and rear actuator clutch harness connector terminals. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, go to step 13.
- Check pigtail harness for open or high resistance. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 15.
- Replace actuator motor and clutch assembly. After repair, go to step 15.
- Check RSDACM harness connector for poor connections or loose terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 15.
- Replace RSDACM. After repair, go to next step.
- Reinitialize PSD. See POWER SLIDING DOOR REINITIALIZATION under PROGRAMMING. Operate system to verify repair. If problem does not exist, system is okay. If problem exists, go to step 3.
