Global Positioning System (GPS)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The global positioning system (GPS) system collects position information for GPS satellites in orbit around the earth. Initial vehicle position is determined by the comparison of the signals received from multiple GPS satellites. The GPS antenna must have a clear unobstructed view of the sky and receive signals from three or more GPS satellites to display accurate position information. Current position is displayed on the navigation display touch screen as a carat. The vehicle speed signal received from the body control module (BCM) and accelerometers in the navigation radio are used to continuously change the position of the vehicle as the vehicle is driven. The GPS system will continuously update ensure the correct position is shown.
