WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The electronic toll collection system is an in vehicle communication system to remotely perform the transaction between a toll road collector and the vehicle operator. The system has a module contained within the mirror assembly. The module uses an antenna to send and receive an RF (radio frequency) signal. The RF message is sent to the toll road's toll collector system and an RF message is sent back to the vehicle telling the electronic toll collection system in the vehicle that the toll requirement has been satisfied. The electronic toll collection system informs the vehicle operator if the toll requirement has not been satisfied.
The electronic toll collection system uses bidirectional RF communication operating at 5.8 GHz.
