No Start Test 5 - Ignition Coil Spark Check

  1. Disconnect secondary coil wire from distributor cap. Hold coil wire 1/4" from a good ground. Crank the engine. There should be spark between the coil wire and ground.
  2. If there is spark, check for problem in distributor cap, rotor or secondary wires. Repair or replace as necessary. If no spark, check coil wire resistance. Resistance should be 250-600 ohms per INCH or 3000-7500 ohms per foot. If resistance is within specifications, proceed to NO START TEST 6  . If resistance exceeds specifications, replace coil wire.
