TEST 33A - Diagnosing Key In Light Switch Problem
NOTE:
For connector identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS Section. Perform VERIFICATION TEST 71A after each repair.
- Ensure ignition switch is in ON position. Open left front door. Using DRB-II, select KEY IN IGNITION SWITCH status. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to step 5). If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect key in light switch connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Connect jumper wire between key in light switch connector terminal No. 3 (Light Blue wire) and terminal No. 4 (Black/Orange wire). Ensure driver's door is open. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace key in light switch. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to next step.
- Disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between key in light switch connector terminal No 3 (Light Blue wire) and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair Black/Orange wire between key in light switch connector and ground for short to ground. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to next step.
- Disconnect jumper wire. Gain access to body controller, located behind right kick panel. With connectors connected, connect jumper wire between Black body controller connector terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire) and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open in Light Blue wire between Black body controller connector and key in light switch connector.
- If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED in step 1), ensure left front door is open. Remove key from ignition switch. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, perform TEST 30A. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, go to next step.
- Disconnect key in light switch connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace key in light switch. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to next step.
- Disconnect body controller. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at Black body controller connector terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Light Blue wire between Black body controller connector and key in light switch connector for short to ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace body controller.
