TEST 61A - Testing Pod Switch & Washer Function
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagrams, see appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS Section. Perform VERIFICATION TEST 71A after each repair.
- Push washer button on pod switch. If washer pump and wipers operate, retest system. If washer pump and wipers do not operate, disconnect front washer pump relay. Relay is located in power distribution center in engine compartment. See Fig 1 .
- Disconnect right side pod switch connector. See Figure . Check relay connector and clean or repair connector as necessary. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance at Light Blue/Red wire between terminal No. 4 of right side pod switch connector and terminal No. 15 of windshield washer relay connector.
- If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Light Blue/Red wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, push washer button and check resistance between terminals No. 4 and No. 6 of right side pod switch connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace washer switch. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, reconnect right pod switch connector.
- Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode. Probe terminal No. 11 (Dark Blue wire) of washer relay connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, probe terminal No. 12 (Dark Blue wire) of washer relay connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue wire.
- If voltage is more than 10 volts, disconnect body controller Black connector. Body controller is located behind right side kick panel. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance at Brown wire between terminal No. 5 of body controller Black connector and terminal No. 14 of washer relay connector.
- If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, reconnect washer pump relay. Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode. Push washer button and probe terminal No. 5 (Brown wire) of body controller Black connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace washer relay. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace body controller.
