Test 49A - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
at end of article.
- Using DRB-II, stop electronic instrument cluster sequential segments test. Disconnect fuel level sensor connector. See Fig 1 . Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Turn ignition on. Using DRB-II, read fuel level sensor voltage. If DRB-II displays more than 8 volts, go to step 5).
- If DRB-II displays less than 8 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect both Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right front kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Turn ignition on (engine off).
- Using DRB-II in voltmeter mode, check voltage on terminal No. 18 (Dark Blue/White wire) of BCM Red connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off.
- Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal No. 18 (Dark Blue wire) of BCM Black connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If DRB-II displayed more than 8 volts in step 1), connect jumper wire between Black/Light Green wire and Dark Blue wire of fuel level sensor connector. If DRB-II displays zero volts, replace fuel level sensor. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If DRB-II does not display zero volts, connect jumper wire between Dark Blue wire of fuel level sensor connector and ground. If DRB-II displays zero volts, repair open Black/Light Green wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If DRB-II does not display zero volts, disconnect jumper wire. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Black connector. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- Reconnect BCM Black connector. Turn ignition on. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 18 (Dark Blue wire) of BCM Black connector and ground. If DRB-II displays zero volts, repair open Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display zero volts, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
