Test 56C - All Taillights Out

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Turn ignition off. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal B2 (Pink/Red wire) of headlight switch 9-pin connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to TEST 56D. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, remove fuse No. 5 from fuse block. See Figure . Check resistance on terminal "I" (Tan wire) of headlight switch 9-pin connector.
  2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, disconnect license plate, right rear and left rear lighting 6-pin connectors. See Fig 1 . Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary.

  3. Disconnect front left and right lighting 10-pin connectors. Connectors are located in engine compartment, near headlights. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Check resistance on terminal "R" (Black/Yellow wire) of headlight switch 9-pin connector.
  4. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to TEST 56E  . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect Blue left body connector. Connector is located on extreme left side of dash, above CCD bus data link connector.
  5. Check resistance on terminal "R" (Black/Yellow wire) of headlight switch 9-pin connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to TEST 56F  .
  6. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect light outage module 14-pin connector. See Figure . Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Check resistance on terminal "R" (Black/Yellow wire) of headlight switch 9-pin connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to TEST 56G  . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect vehicle theft alarm module (if equipped). See Figure .
  7. Check resistance on terminal "R" (Black/Yellow wire) of headlight switch 9-pin connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace vehicle theft alarm module. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  8. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect 50-pin bulkhead connector from passenger compartment side of firewall. See Fig 2 . Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance on terminal "R" (Black/Yellow wire) of headlight switch 9-pin connector.
  9. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Yellow wire in instrument panel wiring harness. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Yellow wire from the 50-pin connector to front lighting circuits. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
