Windshield Wiper Test 9A - Wipers Run Constantly With Ignition On
NOTE:
Perform WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 1A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform, after each repair, TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE
.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Ensure ignition is on and wiper switch is off. Using scan tool, read intermittent wiper voltage. If scan tool displays a voltage of more than 9 volts, go to next step. If scan tool displays a voltage less than 9 volts, go to step 4).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument panel 22-pin connector at BCM. See Figure in CHIME TEST 3A. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 10 (Dark Green/Yellow wire) on instrument panel 22-pin connector. Turn ignition on with engine off. If voltage is more than .5 volt, go to next step. If voltage is .5 volt or less, replace BCM.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect right multifunction switch 7-pin connector. See Figure in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 5G. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 10 (Dark Green/Yellow wire) on instrument panel 22-pin connector. Turn ignition on with engine off. If voltage is more than .5 volt, repair short to battery voltage on Dark Green/Yellow wire. If voltage is .5 volt or less, replace multifunction switch.
- Turn ignition off. Remove intermittent wiper relay and replace original wiper relay with a known good relay. See Figure in WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 2A. Turn ignition on with engine off. If wipers still run constantly, go to next step. If wipers do not run constantly, replace intermittent wiper relay.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect engine 14-pin connector at BCM. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Turn ignition on with engine off. If wipers still run constantly, go to next step. If wipers do not run constantly, replace Body Control Module (BCM).
- Turn ignition off. Remove substitute intermittent wiper relay. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 7 (Pink/Violet wire) on engine 14-pin connector. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground in Pink/Violet wire. If resistance is 100 ohms or greater, replace BCM.
