Low Beam Headlights Will Not Turn On
NOTE:
Perform EXTERIOR LIGHT TEST 1A before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see
BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION. Perform VERIFICATION TEST: VER-2A after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Turn on low beam headlights. If both headlights are not illuminated, go to EXTERIOR LIGHT TEST 3B . If one low beam headlight is not illuminated, go to next step.
- Remove and inspect fuses No. 10 (right low beam headlight) and No. 12 (left low beam headlight) from junction block. See Fig 1. Junction block is located behind left end cap of instrument panel. See Figure. If fuse is open, go to step 5. If fuse is okay, install fuse and go to next step.
- Disconnect inoperative headlight connector. Using external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Violet or Violet/Red wire) on headlight harness connector. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Violet or Violet/Red wire. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Turn off headlights. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal "B" (Black wire) on headlight harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace headlight. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Black wire.
- Replace fuse. If headlight illuminates without blowing fuse, repair is complete. If fuse blows, go to next step.
- Disconnect inoperative headlight connector. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal "A" (Violet or Violet/Red wire) on headlight harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Violet or Violet/Red wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace headlight bulb.
