Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Installation

  1. Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn steering wheel 180 degrees clockwise. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Ensure clockspring is centered. See CENTERING CLOCKSPRING  under ADJUSTMENTS. Install clockspring onto shaft in steering column. Push clockspring downward until it is fully seated into position.
  2. Install and tighten clockspring-to-steering column retaining screws. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure.
  3. Install steering wheel retaining nuts onto steering wheel. DO NOT hammer on steering column shaft when installing steering wheel. Use care when installing air bag module. Avoid pinching air bag module wires. Tighten steering wheel retaining nut and air bag module-to-steering wheel bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Check operation of horn and cruise control switches.
