Fuel System Pressure Release: 3.0L
- Remove fuel pump relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). See Fig 1
. PDC is located in engine compartment, near battery. See Fig 2
. Start engine and allow engine to idle until engine stalls. Attempt to start engine until it will no longer run. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
CAUTION:
Ensure step 1
is performed to release high-fuel pressure in the fuel rail before proceeding. DO NOT attempt to use the following steps to release fuel pressure unless step 1
has been performed, as excessive fuel will be released into the cylinder.
- Disconnect electrical connector at injector. Connect jumper wire between Dark Green/Orange wire electrical terminal on injector and positive battery terminal.
- Momentarily connect jumper wire between remaining electrical terminal on injector and ground for no longer than 4 seconds. DO NOT exceed 4 seconds or injector may be damaged. This operates injector and releases fuel pressure.
- Remove jumper wires. Install electrical connector on injector. Fuel pressure should now be released. Reinstall fuel pump relay. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTCs) may have been stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) due to the removal of fuel pump relay.
- For clearing DTCs from PCM, connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) below driver's side of instrument panel. See Fig 3
. Using scan tool manufacturer's instructions, clear DTCs from ABS and SRS modules.
