Engine Temperature Warning Light
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Start engine. If engine temperature light is illuminated, go to next step. If engine temperature light is not illuminated, go to step 5 .
- Using scan tool, select BODY SYSTEMS. Read CHIME MONITOR. If scam tool displays ENGINE TEMP LAMP: ON, engine may have an overheating problem. Check and repair cooling system as necessary. If scan tool does not display ENGINE TEMP LAMP: ON, go to next step.
- Turn engine off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector "A". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If engine temperature light is not illuminated, replace BCM. If engine temperature light is illuminated, go to next step.
- Disconnect information center 13-pin connector. Remove ignition key. Turn off all lights and accessories. Close all doors. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 6 (Violet wire) at information center connector. See Figure . If resistance is 10 ohms or more, replace information center. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet wire.
- Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate ENGINE TEMPERATURE LIGHT. If engine temperature light illuminates, warning light system is functioning properly at this time. Fault may be intermittent. If engine temperature light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Disconnect information center 13-pin connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 10 (Brown/Pink wire) at information center connector. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Brown/Pink wire between junction block and information center. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Remove and inspect engine temperature warning light bulb. Replace bulb as necessary. If bulb is okay, go to next step.
- Reinstall bulb and reconnect information center connector. Connect one end of a jumper wire to ground. Using other end of jumper wire, backprobe terminal No. 6 (Violet wire) at information center connector. If engine temperature warning light does not illuminate, replace information center. If engine temperature warning light illuminates, go to next step.
- Gain access to Body Control Module (BCM) connector "A". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Remove cover from connector "A". Do not disconnect connector. Connect one end of a jumper wire to ground. Using other end of jumper wire, backprobe terminal No. 6 (Violet wire) at BCM connector "A". If engine temperature warning light does not illuminate, repair open in Violet wire. If engine temperature warning light illuminates, replace BCM.
