Headlights Inoperative When Alarm Is Tripped (If Enabled)

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform VTSS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Turn low beam headlights on. If low beam headlights do not operate properly, diagnose headlights. See LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT TURN ON  under EXTERIOR LIGHTING SYSTEMS. If low beam headlights operate properly, go to next step.
  2. Turn headlights off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, activate headlight delay relay. If headlights flash while actuating headlight delay relay, replace Body Control Module (BCM). If headlights do not flash, go to next step.
  3. Remove headlight delay relay from junction block. See Figure . Temporarily remove horn relay from junction block. Reinstall horn relay in place of headlight delay relay. Using scan tool, activate headlight delay relay. If headlights flash while actuating headlight delay relay, replace headlight delay relay. If headlights do not flash, reinstall horn relay in horn relay socket and go to next step.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and terminals No. 1 and 3 at headlight delay relay socket in junction block. connector. See Figure . If voltage is more than 10 volts at both terminals, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less at any terminal, diagnose headlight delay relay circuits. See HEADLIGHT DELAY RELAY INOPERATIVE  under EXTERIOR LIGHTING SYSTEMS.
  5. Turn ignition off. Remove BCM from junction block. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect a jumper wire between terminals No. 1 and 2 at headlight delay relay socket in junction block. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 5 at BCM-to-junction block 12-pin connector. See Figure . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, replace junction block.
  6. Remove jumper wire. Reinstall headlight delay relay. Ensure BCM is removed from junction block. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 5 at BCM-to-junction block 12-pin connector. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace BCM. If voltage is 10 volts or less, replace headlight delay relay.
