High Beam Switch Input Short
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear all Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs. Turn headlights on and activate high beams on. Recheck for DTCs. If HIGH BEAM SWITCH INPUT SHORT resets, go to next step. If HIGH BEAM SWITCH INPUT SHORT does not reset, conditions necessary to set this DTC are not present at this time. Check for intermittent poor connections or faulty circuits and repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Locate and disconnect multifunction switch 4-pin connector. For removal and installation procedures to access connector, see STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - CARAVAN, TOWN & COUNTRY, & VOYAGER article. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor MULTIFUNCTION switch voltage. If voltage is 4.8 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is greater than 4.8 volts, replace multifunction switch.
- Locate and disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors C4 and C5. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . See Figure . Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and BCM connector C5 terminal No. 27 (Violet/Light Green wire). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Violet/Light Green wire between BCM and multifunction switch connector terminal No. 4.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between BCM connector C5 terminal No. 27 (Violet/Light Green wire) and connector C4 terminal No. 22 (Violet/Orange wire). See Figure . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short between Violet/Orange and Violet/Light Green wires between BCM and multifunction switch.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and BCM connector C4 terminal No. 22 (Violet/Orange wire). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Violet/Orange wire between BCM and multifunction switch connector terminal No. 2.
