Fuel Level Sensor

Fuel level sensor may also be referred to as fuel gauge sending unit. The fuel level sensor is located in fuel tank, on fuel pump module assembly. See Fig 1 . The fuel level sensor is a variable resistor. The resistance changes with the amount of fuel in the tank. The float arm attached to the sensor, moves as the fuel level changes. The fuel level input is used as an input for OBD-II. If the fuel level is below 15 percent or above 85 percent of total tank capacity, several monitors are disabled.
