Engine Controls - System & Component Testing: Introduction
Before testing separate components or systems, follow proper workflow. See the following:
- On 2.4L, see DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CARAVAN & VOYAGER - 2.4L article.
- On 3.3L and 3.8L, see DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CARAVAN, TOWN & COUNTRY, & VOYAGER - 3.3L & 3.8L article.
On all models, if no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are present and a no-start condition exists, proceed to NO-START DIAGNOSIS in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - CARAVAN, TOWN & COUNTRY & VOYAGER article. If no DTCs are present and a driveability condition exists, proceed to TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARAVAN, TOWN & COUNTRY & VOYAGER article for diagnosis by symptom (i.e., ROUGH IDLE, ENGINE STALLS, etc.).
NOTE:
Testing individual components does not isolate short or open circuits. Perform all voltage tests with a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate shorted or open wiring harness.
