Steering Wheel & Steering Column: Column: Installation
WARNING:
BEFORE SERVICING THE STEERING COLUMN THE AIRBAG SYSTEM MUST BE DISARMED. SEE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS
ARTICLE. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
CAUTION:
DO NOT use force as the intermediate shaft is sensitive to the effects of side force.
- Install the steering column.
- Install the lower nuts on the steering column attaching the steering column to the lower mounting surface. Tighten to 8 N.m (71 in. lbs.).
- Install the upper bolts (1) on the steering column attaching it to the instrument panel support. Tighten to 20 N.m (15 ft. lbs.).
- Install the pinch bolt (1) attaching the upper steering column to the steering gear. Tighten to 30 N.m (22 ft. lbs.).
- Connect the clockspring electrical connector.
- Install the column trim ring.
- Install the speed control switch screws (1).
- Install the multifunction switch screws (1-2).
- Reconnect the ignition switch connector.
- Install the instrument cluster (1). See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER article.
- Install the clockspring screws (1). See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
- Install the steering wheel bolt (1). See STEERING WHEEL .
- Install the driver airbag screws (1). See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
- Install the left lower instrument panel (2) under the steering column. See BODY article.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
