Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Dodge SX, 2005 Dodge SRT-4, and 2005 Dodge Neon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The crankshaft position sensor mounts to the engine block near the starter. See Fig 1.
The PCM uses the Crankshaft Position sensor to calculate the following:
- Engine RPM
- TDC number 1 and 4
- Ignition coil synchronization
- Injector synchronization
- Camshaft-to-crankshaft misalignment (Timing belt skipped 1 tooth or more diagnostic trouble code).
