Antilock Brake Module (MK25E): Installation

  1. Clean any debris off the mating surfaces of the HCU and ABM.
  2. CAUTION: Do not reuse internal pump connector O-ring or solenoid valve stem seals. They must be replaced to ensure proper sealing.
    CAUTION: When installing new O-rings or solenoid valve stem seals, do not use any type of lubricant.

  3. Replace solenoid valve stem seals. See Fig 1. These seals can be easily removed and installed by hand. Do not use any type of sharp instrument or damage to the components may occur.

  4. Replace pump/motor connector O-ring if not new. See Fig 2.

  5. With connector cover completely open. See Figure, install 47-way wiring connector into socket of the ABM and close cover, locking connector in place.
  6. Align ABM solenoids and pump/motor wiring connector with HCU valves and connector passage. See Figure. Slide ABM onto HCU.
  7. If not equipped with traction control, install three screws attaching the ABM to the HCU. See Figure. Tighten mounting screws to 2 N.m (17 in. lbs.) torque.
  8. If equipped with traction control, install four screws attaching ABM to HCU. See Figure. Tighten mounting screws to 2 N.m (17 in. lbs.) torque.
  9. Lower vehicle.
  10. Connect negative battery cable to battery post.
  11. Hook up scan tool to initialize ABM. Check and clear any faults.
