Diagnostic Test

  1. DTC IS ACTIVE 
    NOTE: If P0562-BATTERY VOLTAGE LOW or P0563-BATTERY VOLTAGE HIGH is set along with this DTC, diagnose the battery voltage DTC first.
    1. Ignition on, engine not running.
    2. Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop at least three times.
    3. With the scan tool, select View DTCs in the Steering Control Module.

      Is the DTC status Active at this time?

      Yes 

      • Go to step  2

      No 

      • Go to step  4
  2. STEERING ANGLE SENSOR TONE WHEEL 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Remove the steering wheel in accordance with the Service Information.
    3. Inspect the clockspring for loose mounting screws or damage.
    4. Remove the clockspring in accordance with the Service Information.
    5. Inspect the Steering Angle Sensor and Tone Wheel for damage, loose or missing mounting screws, etc.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go to  3
  3. STEERING ANGLE SENSOR 
    1. Replace the Steering Angle Sensor in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Ignition on, engine not running.
    3. Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop at least three times.
    4. With the scan tool, Clear Stored DTCs in the Steering Control Module.
    5. Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop at least three times.
    6. With the scan tool, select View DTCs in the Steering Control Module.

      Is the DTC status Active at this time?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Test Complete.
  4. INTERMITTENT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR ERRATIC PERFORMANCE DTC 
    1. The conditions necessary to set this DTC are not present at this time.
    2. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors.
    3. While monitoring the scan tool data relative to this circuit, wiggle test the wiring and connectors.
    4. Look for the data to change or for the DTC to reset during the wiggle test.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Test complete.
