Initialization And Obstacle Detection Calibration

Sunroof initialization & obstacle detection calibration is a process to teach the sunroof/sunshade motor(s) where to stop for the correct open, close & vent positions and calibrate the obstacle detection system.

NOTE:

For the following procedures verify that the battery is in good condition and do not perform procedures while vehicle battery is connected to battery charger.

There are two procedures for initialization & obstacle detection calibration. Select the appropriate procedure that fits the scenario.

PROCEDURE 1: Initialization & Obstacle Detection Calibration

Procedure 1 must be followed when a new service replacement motor is installed. Use the appropriate procedure for sunroof or power sunshade depending on which motor was replaced.

SUNROOF  - The following procedure must be followed only when new replacement service motor is installed.

  1. Set the vehicle ignition switch to ACCESSORY or start engine.
  2. Cycle sunshade to the half open or full open position (if sunshade & glass motors were both replaced complete the POWER SUNSHADE Initialization & Obstacle Detection Calibration procedure first).
  3. Press and hold the sunroof VENT switch. Hold the switch through the following events: sunroof glass panel will move into the vent position, then short pause, sunroof glass will cycle to full open position, then short pause, sunroof glass will cycle into full closed position and stop all motion.
  4. Release the sunroof VENT switch after all motion has stopped; initialization and obstacle detection calibration is complete. If the VENT switch was released prior to the sunroof completing all operations described the motor calibration will be incomplete and express operations will not work; in this event you must refer to Procedure 2 (re-initialization) to properly calibrate.

POWER SUNSHADE  - The following procedure must be followed only when new replacement service motor is installed.

  1. Set the vehicle ignition switch to ACCESSORY or start engine.
  2. If the sunroof glass motor was not replaced insure the sunroof glass is in closed position.
  3. Press and hold the power sunshade CLOSE switch. Hold the switch through the following events: sunshade will drive forward into closed position, then short pause, sunshade will the cycle into full open position, then short pause, sunshade will cycle back to full closed position and stop all motion.
  4. Release the power sunshade CLOSE switch after all motion has stopped; initialization and obstacle detection calibration is complete. If the CLOSE switch was released prior to the sunshade completing all operations described the motor calibration will be incomplete and express operations will not work; in this event you must refer to Procedure 2 (re-initialization) to properly calibrate.

Procedure 2: Re-initialization & Obstacle Detection Calibration

Procedure 2 must be followed if any of the following is true:

SUNROOF

POWER SUNSHADE

  1. Set vehicle ignition switch to ON/RUN.
  2. Close the sunroof glass panel.
  3. Open the driver side front door (to prevent accessory delay ignition state).
  4. Switch vehicle ignition to OFF.
  5. Within 5 seconds, switch the vehicle ignition back to ACCESSORY.
  6. Within 5 seconds, press and hold the power sunshade CLOSE switch. After 1 second the re-initialization process will begin. Continue to hold the switch through the following events: Sunshade will drive forward into closed position, then short pause, sunshade will the cycle into full open position, then short pause, sunshade will cycle back to full closed position and stop all motion.
  7. Release the power sunshade CLOSE switch after all motion has stopped; re-initialization and obstacle detection calibration is complete. If the CLOSE switch was released prior to the sunshade completing all operations described the entire procedure must be repeated.
  8. Confirm power sunshade express operation (press & release switch) is functional for open and close operations.
