Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR RELATED DTCS
- With the scan tool, read Memory Seat Module-Passenger (MSMP) DTCs.
Are there any seat position sensor DTCs present?
Yes
- Repair the MSMP DTC(s). Refer to PASSENGER MEMORY SEATS MODULE (MSMP), DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No
- Go To 2
- With the scan tool, read Memory Seat Module-Passenger (MSMP) DTCs.
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read Memory Seat Module-Passenger (MSMP) DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Move the Seat Switch in the horizontal position multiple times.
- With the scan tool, read MSMP DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE (G502) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL POSITION SENSE CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage between ground the (G502) Passenger Seat Horizontal Position Sense circuit at the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector.NOTE:
The voltage should be above 11.0 volts.
Is the voltage above 11.0 volts?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Go To 11
- CHECK THE (P988) SENSOR/SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage between the (G502) Passenger Seat Horizontal Position Sense circuit and the (P988) Sensor/Switch Return circuit at the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector.NOTE:
The voltage should be above 11.0 volts.
Is the voltage above 11.0 volts?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Go To 12
- Measure the voltage between the (G502) Passenger Seat Horizontal Position Sense circuit and the (P988) Sensor/Switch Return circuit at the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector.
- CHECK THE (P120) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL FORWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
- CHECK THE (P122) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL REARWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
- CHECK THE (P120) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL FORWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL SWITCH IN THE FORWARD POSITION
- Connect a 12-volt test light between ground and the (P120) Passenger Seat Horizontal Forward Driver circuit at the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector.
- While observing the test light, move the Passenger Seat Horizontal Switch in the forward position.NOTE:
The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go To 8
No
- Go To 15
- CHECK THE (P122) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL REARWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL SWITCH IN THE REARWARD POSITION
- Connect a 12-volt test light between ground and the (P122) Passenger Seat Horizontal Rearward Driver circuit at the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector.
- While observing the test light, move the Passenger Seat Horizontal Switch in the rearward position.NOTE:
The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go To 9
No
- Go To 17
- CHECK THE PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL FORWARD DRIVER
- Connect a 12-volt test light between the (P120) Passenger Seat Horizontal Forward Driver circuit and the (P122) Passenger Seat Horizontal Rearward Driver circuit at the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector.
- While observing the test light, move the Passenger Seat Horizontal Switch in the forward position.NOTE:
The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go To 10
No
- Go To 19
- CHECK THE PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL REARWARD DRIVER
- Connect a 12-volt test light between the (P115) Driver Seat Horizontal Forward Driver circuit and the (P117) Driver Seat Horizontal Rearward Driver circuit at the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector.
- While observing the test light, move the Passenger Seat Horizontal Switch in the rearward position.NOTE:
The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Replace the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MOTOR, SEAT, FORE AFT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 19
- CHECK THE (G502) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL POSITION SENSE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the MSMP C3 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (G502) Passenger Seat Horizontal Position Sense circuit between the Passenger Seat Horizontal Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMP C3 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 19
No
- Repair the (G502) Passenger Seat Horizontal Position Sense circuit for and open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (P988) SENSOR/SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the MSMP C3 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (P988) Sensor/Switch Return circuit between the Passenger Seat Horizontal Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMP C3 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms.
Yes
- Go To 19
No
- Repair the (P988) Sensor/Switch Return circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (P120) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL FORWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the MSMP C2 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage of the (P120) Passenger Seat Horizontal Forward Driver circuit at the MSMP C2 harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (P120) Passenger Seat Horizontal Forward Driver circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 19
- CHECK THE (P122) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL REARWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the MSMP C2 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage of the (P122) Passenger Seat Horizontal Rearward Driver circuit.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (P122) Passenger Seat Horizontal Rearward Driver circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 19
- CHECK THE (P120) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL FORWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the MSMP C2 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (P120) Passenger Seat Horizontal Forward Driver circuit at the MSMP C2 harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (P120) Passenger Seat Horizontal Forward Driver circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (P120) Passenger Seat Horizontal Forward Driver circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 16
- CHECK THE (P120) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL FORWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (P120) Passenger Seat Horizontal Forward Driver circuit between the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMP C2 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 19
No
- Repair the (P120) Passenger Seat Horizontal Forward Driver circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (P120) Passenger Seat Horizontal Forward Driver circuit between the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMP C2 harness connector.
- CHECK THE (P122) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL REARWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the MSMP C2 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (P122) Passenger Seat Horizontal Rearward Driver circuit at the MSMP C2 harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (P122) Passenger Seat Horizontal Rearward Driver circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (P122) Passenger Seat Horizontal Rearward Driver circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 18
- CHECK THE (P122) PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL REARWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (P122) Passenger Seat Horizontal Rearward Driver circuit between the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMP C2 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 19
No
- Repair the (P122) Passenger Seat Horizontal Rearward Driver circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (P122) Passenger Seat Horizontal Rearward Driver circuit between the Passenger Horizontal Seat Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMP C2 harness connector.
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect all MSMP harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all MSMP harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read MSMP DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace and program the Memory Seat Module-Passenger (MSMP) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, MEMORY SEAT (MSM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
