Engine Controls - Self-Diagnostics - NGC: Introduction

NOTE: The Next Generation Controller (NGC) combines the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the Transmission Control Module (TCM) into a single controller. The NGC PCM has 4 harness connectors (Black C1, Gray C2, White C3 and Green C4) and the Jeep/Truck Engine Controller (JTEC) PCM has 3 harness connectors. This article applies only to Durango models equipped with a 4.7L engine and the NGC PCM. For self-diagnostic information on Durango models equipped with the JTEC PCM, see SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - DURANGO - JTEC article. Throughout this article, the NGC PCM will be referred to as the PCM.

To properly diagnose and repair this vehicle, follow DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are present and a no-start condition exists, proceed to BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - DAKOTA & DURANGO article. If no DTCs are present and a driveability condition exists, proceed to appropriate TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article for diagnosis by symptom (i.e., ROUGH IDLE, ENGINE STALLS, etc.).
