Diagnostic Tests: Notes

CAUTION: Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position when performing resistance tests.
NOTE: Perform all resistance and voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedures.
NOTE: For wire color identification at PCM terminals, see PIN VOLTAGE CHARTS - 2.4L article.

The following self-diagnostic tests apply only to Expo and Summit Wagon equipped with California emissions and FWD, and Mirage and Summit equipped with California emissions.

Using scan tool, display and record trouble codes. See ENTERING ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If scan tool is blank, see SCAN TOOL WILL NOT COMMUNICATE . If no codes are displayed, see TESTS W/O CODES - 2.4L article.

Clear trouble codes. See CLEARING CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Road test vehicle (if necessary) and attempt to duplicate conditions that caused original complaint. Recheck for codes. If no codes are displayed, go to INTERMITTENT FAULTS . If one or more codes are displayed, repair codes in order starting with lowest numbered code. Clear codes after each repair. Recheck for codes to confirm repair.
