Module, Vehicle Tracking (VTM): Installation
To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
The Vehicle Tracking Module (VTM) is only used in vehicles manufactured for certain export markets where it is required equipment.
- Position the Vehicle Tracking Module (VTM) (4) and mounting bracket into the vehicle as a unit.
- Reconnect the wire harness connector (3) to the VTM connector receptacle.
- Position the VTM mounting bracket to the evaporator housing and the instrument panel support structure.
- Install and tighten the screw (2) that secures the outboard end of the VTM mounting bracket to the instrument panel support structure. Tighten the screw securely.
- Install and tighten the nut that secures the inboard end of the VTM mounting bracket to the evaporator housing. Tighten the nut securely.
- Reinstall the cover onto the instrument panel. Refer to COVER, INSTRUMENT PANEL, INSTALLATION .
- Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
If the Vehicle Tracking Module (VTM) has been replaced with a new unit, the shipping mode must be disabled using a diagnostic scan tool and a VTM registration procedure must be completed by the vehicle owner to restore VTM functionality.
