Suspension - Programmed Ride Control: Testing

A thorough visual inspection should precede all testing. See SYMPTOM DIRECTORY and PRC SYSTEM SELF-DIAGNOSTICS. See Figure. An Analog Volt-Ohm Meter (VOM), jumper wire and circuit tester are needed for testing.

The PRC system has no warning light to signal driver about ride control problems. Information concerning possible problems can be gained through 3 specialized tests: KEY ON, ENGINE OFF TEST, CONTINUOUS MONITOR MODE TEST and PINPOINT TESTS. When activated, system tests integrity and processing capability. It also verifies sensors and actuators are connected and operating properly.

Code patterns are accessed through PRC test connector, on left side of engine compartment below windshield wiper motor. The control module does NOT store any fault codes. Perform a thorough visual inspection and repair any mechanical fault before testing or false diagnostic information may be obtained. Follow each test in order before going to PINPOINT TESTS or replacement of non-defective parts may result.
