Steering Wheel Turning Effort Check

  1. Ensure front wheels are properly aligned and tire pressure is correct before performing procedure. Park vehicle on dry concrete and set parking brake. Allow engine to idle 2-3 minutes to warm power steering fluid to operating temperature.
  2. With engine running, attach a pull gauge to rim of steering wheel, and measure pull required to turn steering wheel one revolution in each direction from center. Steering wheel static turning effort should be approximately 7.5 lbs. (3.4 kg).
