No Communication With Driver Door Module

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Check Power Supply  - Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect driver's door module 4-pin connector. Measure voltage between ground and Dark Green/Purple wire at 4-pin connector. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, go to step 16).
  2. Check Dark Green/Purple Wire  - Disconnect driver's door module 16-pin connector. Measure voltage between ground and Dark Green/Purple wire at 16-pin connector. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, repair open in Dark Green/Purple wire between driver door module 4-pin connector and splice. Retest system.
  3. Check Fuse No. 41  - Remove fuse No. 41 (10-amp) from instrument panel fuse block. Check condition of fuse. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, repair open in Dark Green/Purple wire between driver door module and instrument panel fuse block. Retest system.
  4. Check For Short  - Disconnect driver's door module 4-pin connector. With fuse No. 41 still removed from instrument panel fuse block, measure resistance between ground and Dark Green/Purple wire at 4-pin connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step 10).
  5. Check Master Door Lock Switch For Short To Ground  - Disconnect master door lock switch 7-pin connector. Measure resistance between ground and Dark Green/Purple wire at driver door module 4-pin connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace master door lock switch. Retest system.
  6. Check Passenger Door Lock Switch For Short To Ground  - Disconnect passenger door lock switch 7-pin connector. Measure resistance between ground and Dark Green/Purple wire at driver door module 4-pin connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace passenger door lock switch. Retest system.
  7. Check Keyless Entry Keypad For Short To Ground  - Disconnect keyless entry keypad 8-pin connector. Measure resistance between ground and Dark Green/Purple wire at driver door module 4-pin connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace keyless entry keypad. Retest system.
  8. Check Driver Seat Memory Switch For Short To Ground  - Disconnect driver's seat memory switch 6-pin connector. Measure resistance between ground and Dark Green/Purple wire at driver door module 4-pin connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace driver seat memory switch. Retest system.
  9. Check Driver's Mirror Control Switch For Short To Ground  - Disconnect driver's mirror control switch 10-pin connector. Measure resistance between ground and Dark Green/Purple wire at driver door module 4-pin connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair Dark Green/Purple wire for short to ground. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace driver's mirror control switch. Retest system.
  10. Check Pink/Black Wire  - Disconnect driver's door module 22-pin connector. Measure resistance between ground and Pink/Black wire at driver's door module 22-pin connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step 13).
  11. Check Driver's Door Lock Motor  - Disconnect driver's door lock motor connector. Measure resistance between ground and Pink/Black wire at driver's door module 22-pin connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace driver's door lock motor. Retest system.
  12. Check Passenger's Door Lock Motor  - Disconnect passenger's door lock motor connector. Measure resistance between ground and Pink/Black wire at driver's door module 22-pin connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair Pink/Black wire for short to ground. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace passenger's door lock motor. Retest system.
  13. Check Pink/Yellow & Pink/Light Green Wires  - Measure resistance between ground and Pink/Yellow wire at driver's door module 22-pin connector. Measure resistance between ground and Pink/Light Green wire at driver's door module 22-pin connector. If resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistances are less than 10 k/ohms, repair Pink/Yellow or Pink/Light Green wire(s) for short to ground. Retest system.
  14. Check For System Short To Ground  - Measure resistance between ground and each following wire individually at driver's door module 16-pin connector:
    • Light Blue/Yellow wire.
    • Light Green/Red wire.
    • Yellow/Black wire.
    • Yellow wire.
    • Red wire.

If resistances are less than 10 k/ohms, repair suspect circuit for short to ground. If resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step.

  15. Check For System Short To Ground  - Measure resistance between ground and each following wire individually at driver's door module 22-pin connector:
    • Brown/Orange wire.
    • Brown/Light Green wire.
    • Black/Orange wire.
    • Purple/Orange wire.
    • Purple/Light Green wire.
    • Red/Orange wire.
    • Dark Green/Orange wire.
    • Yellow/Black wire.

If resistances are less than 10 k/ohms, repair suspect circuit for short to ground. If resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, replace driver's door module and fuse No. 41 (10-amp) in instrument panel fuse block. Retest system.

  16. Check Dark Green/Purple Wire  - Disconnect driver's door module 16-pin connector. Measure voltage between ground and Dark Green/Purple wire at 16-pin connector.
