DTC B1533 Memory "1" Switch Short To Battery (B+)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Continental. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure Switch Is Not Active  - Ensure MEMORY "1" switch is not pressed. Clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Perform ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST. See ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If DTC B1533 is not indicated, go to next step. If DTC B1533 is indicated, go to step 3).
  2. Ensure Switch Is Not Sticking  - Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Set NGS tester to read MEM1SW PID. Press and release MEMORY "1" button several times. If PID indicates that button releases within one second of when switch is released, system is operating normally. Continuous DTC would be set if MEMORY "1" BUTTON was pressed for longer than 2 minutes. If PID indicates that button does not release within one second of when BUTTON is released, replace memory switch and retest system.
  3. Circuit Test (Brown/Light Green Wire)  - Unplug connector C506 from Driver's Door Module (DDM). Check connector C506 pin No. 10 (Brown/Light Green wire) for battery voltage. See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace DDM and retest system.
  4. Switch Voltage Test  - Unplug memory switch connector. Check DDM connector C506 pin No. 10 (Brown/Light Green wire) for battery voltage. If battery voltage exists, repair short to battery voltage in Brown/Light Green wire. If battery voltage does not exist, replace memory switch and retest system.
