DTC B1541 Any Memory Switch Shorted To Battery (B+)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Continental. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ensure Switches Are Not Closed - Ensure driver's and passenger mirror switches are not pressed. Clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Perform ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST. See ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. Ensure no switches are pressed during test. If DTC B1541 does not exist, go to next step. If DTC B1541 exists, go to step 3).
- Ensure Switches Are Not Sticking
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Set NGS tester to read the following PIDs:
- MIRVSW (Vertical Switch Movement)
- MIRHSW (Horizontal Switch Movement)
- MIRSEL (Select Switch)
NOTE: Select PID will only show RIGHT while mirror switch is held, regardless of select switch position. This is normal.Press and release each mirror switch several times. If PID indicates that each button releases within one second of when switch is released, system is operating normally. Continuous DTC would be set if any mirror switch was shorted to battery during diagnostic. If PID indicates that each button does not release within one second of when switch is released, replace memory switch and retest system.
- Mirror Switch Test - Unplug mirror switch connector. Ensure that all other connections are intact. Clear DTCs. Perform ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST. See ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If DTC B1541 still exists, go to next step. If DTC B1541 does not exist, replace mirror switch and retest system.
- Circuit Checks - Unplug connector C506 from driver's door module. See Figure . Check for battery voltage on Pins No. 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 at driver's door module connector C506. If battery voltage exists in any wire, repair short to battery voltage of wire in question. If battery voltage does not exist, replace DDM and retest system.
