Test C: Wipers Inoperative At Low Speed
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Continental. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition on. Set wiper switch for high speed operation. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Check for battery voltage between Yellow/Red and Dark Blue/Orange wires at connector. If battery voltage does not exist, go to TEST B . If battery voltage exists, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Set wiper switch for low speed operation. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Check for battery voltage between Yellow/Red and Dark Blue/Orange wires at connector. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, replace wiper motor and retest system.
- Set wiper switch for low speed operation. Ensure Wiper Control Module (WCM) connector is properly connected. Measure voltage at WCM connector Yellow/Red wire terminal. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, repair Yellow/Red wire as necessary and retest system.
- Set wiper switch for low speed operation. Ensure Wiper Control Module connector is properly connected. Measure voltage at WCM connector Dark Blue/Orange wire terminal. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, repair Dark Blue/Orange wire as necessary and retest system.
- Disconnect connector from WCM. Set wiper switch to low speed. Measure resistance between Brown/White and Orange wires at WCM harness connector. If resistance is not 3500-4500 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 3500-4500 ohms, replace WCM and retest system.
- Disconnect multifunction switch 7-pin connector. Set wiper switch for high speed operation. Check resistance of Brown/White wire between ground and multifunction switch 7-pin connector. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair Brown/White wire between WCM and wiper switch.
- Disconnect multifunction switch 7-pin connector. Set wiper switch for low speed operation. Check resistance of Orange wire between ground and multifunction switch 7-pin connector. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair Orange wire between WCM and wiper switch.
- Disconnect multifunction switch 7-pin connector. Set wiper switch for low speed operation. Check resistance between Orange wire terminal and Brown/White wire terminal of multifunction switch 7-pin connector. If resistance is 3500-4500 ohms, repair open in Orange wire and/or Brown/White wire. After repair, retest system.
