WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Mercury Tracer and 1997 Ford Escort. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Inspect RR WIPER fuse (10-amp) in instrument panel fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, check Blue/Purple wire for short to ground before replacing fuse. Repair wiring as necessary and go to next step. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Disconnect rear wiper motor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and Blue/Purple wire at wiper motor wiring harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Blue/Purple wire.
- Turn ignition off. Rotate rear wiper switch to on. Measure resistance between ground and Blue/Black wire at wiper motor wiring harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace rear wiper motor. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Test rear wiper switch. See WIPER SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTING . Replace switch as necessary. If switch is okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 3-pin rear wiper/washer switch connector. Measure resistance between ground and rear wiper/washer switch harness connector Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue/Black wire between rear wiper/washer switch and rear wiper motor. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
