Engine Front Cover: Installation

- Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of sealant.
- Clean all sealing surfaces with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep.
- Install a new gasket on the engine front cover.
- Apply a 6-mm (0.23-in) diameter dot of silicone gasket and sealer to the cylinder block, the lower cylinder block and the cylinder head mating surfaces.
- Position the engine front cover and install the 15 bolts and the stud bolt.
- Tighten in the sequence shown to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Connect the 2 camshaft position (CMP) sensors and the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connectors.
- Install the crankshaft front seal. For additional information, refer to LOWER END COMPONENTS - EXPLODED VIEW, CRANKSHAFT PULLEY AND CRANKSHAFT FRONT OIL SEAL and CRANKSHAFT FRONT SEAL in this article .
- Install the power steering pump. For additional information, refer to POWER STEERING .
- Install the oil pan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE LUBRICATION COMPONENTS - EXPLODED VIEW, OIL PAN, OIL PUMP, OIL PUMP SCREEN AND PICKUP TUBE and OIL PAN in this article .
- Connect the lower radiator hose.
- Install the fuel tube bracket bolt.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Connect the upper radiator hose.
- Install the coolant pump. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Install the accessory drive belt tensioner and idler pulleys. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .
- Install the LH and RH valve covers. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - LH and VALVE COVER - RH in this article .
- Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.
NOTE:
The engine front cover must be installed and the bolts tightened within 4 minutes of applying sealant.
NOTE:
Number 14 is a stud and washer assembly.
