Engine Front Cover: Installation

    CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.
  1. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of sealant.
    • Clean all sealing surfaces with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep.
    • Install a new gasket on the engine front cover.
  2. NOTE: The engine front cover must be installed and the bolts tightened within 4 minutes of applying sealant.

  3. Apply a 6-mm (0.23-in) diameter dot of silicone gasket and sealer to the cylinder block, the lower cylinder block and the cylinder head mating surfaces.
  4. NOTE: Number 14 is a stud and washer assembly.

  5. Position the engine front cover and install the 15 bolts and the stud bolt.
    • Tighten in the sequence shown to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  6. Connect the 2 camshaft position (CMP) sensors and the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connectors.
  7. Install the crankshaft front seal. For additional information, refer to LOWER END COMPONENTS - EXPLODED VIEW, CRANKSHAFT PULLEY AND CRANKSHAFT FRONT OIL SEAL  and CRANKSHAFT FRONT SEAL  in this article .
  8. Install the power steering pump. For additional information, refer to POWER STEERING .
  9. Install the oil pan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE LUBRICATION COMPONENTS - EXPLODED VIEW, OIL PAN, OIL PUMP, OIL PUMP SCREEN AND PICKUP TUBE  and OIL PAN  in this article .
  10. Connect the lower radiator hose.
  11. Install the fuel tube bracket bolt.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  12. Connect the upper radiator hose.
  13. Install the coolant pump. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  14. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner and idler pulleys. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .
  15. Install the LH and RH valve covers. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - LH  and VALVE COVER - RH  in this article .
  16. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  17. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
