DTC B1398: Driver's Window One-Touch Relay Circuit Failure

NOTE: After making any repair, repeat Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test using NGS tester.
  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Press driver's window up switch. If window goes up, go to next step. If window does not go up, go to step  4 .
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove one-touch window down relay from instrument panel fuse box. Using NGS tester, access GEM active commands. Select ONE TOUCH WINDOW DOWN and ACCY DELAY. Trigger ONE TOUCH to ON. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 85 at one-touch window down relay socket. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace one-touch window down relay.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Generic Electronic Module (GEM) from instrument panel fuse box (connector C201). Measure resistance between terminal No. 7 at GEM connector C201 (on fuse box) and terminal No. 85 at one-touch window down relay socket. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace GEM. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace instrument panel fuse box.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove one-touch window down relay from instrument panel fuse box. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminals No. 86 and 87 at one-touch window down relay socket. If battery voltage does not exist at both terminals, go to next step. If battery voltage exists at both terminals, go to step  10 .
  5. Operate power door locks. If power door locks do not operate, go to next step. If power door locks operate, go to step  8 .
  6. Disconnect instrument panel fuse box harness connector C225. Measure voltage at terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire) instrument panel fuse box harness connector C225. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, replace instrument panel fuse box.
  7. Remove fuse No. 4 (30-amp) from engine compartment fuse box. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire) at instrument panel fuse box harness connector C225. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, repair open in Black/White wire. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/White wire and replace fuse.
  8. Remove accessory delay relay from instrument panel fuse box. Measure resistance between terminal No. 87 at accessory delay relay socket and terminal No. 87 at one-touch window down relay socket. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace instrument panel fuse box.
  9. Measure voltage at terminal No. 30 at accessory delay relay socket. See Figure . If battery voltage exists, replace accessory delay relay. If battery voltage does not exist, replace instrument panel fuse box.
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 85 at one-touch window down relay socket. See Figure . If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace one-touch window down relay.
  11. Disconnect GEM from instrument panel fuse box (connector C201). Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 85 at one-touch window down relay socket. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, replace instrument panel fuse box. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace GEM.
