Test E: Front Wiper Wash & Wipe Function Inoperative Or Does Not Operate Correctly

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Operate multifunction switch to wash and wipe function and check for proper operation. If wipers and washers work properly, go to next step. If wipers and washers do not work properly, go to step  5 .
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect washer pump harness connector C828. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn multifunction switch to wash and wipe function and measure voltage between washer pump harness connector C828 terminals No. 1 (White/Black wire) and No. 2 (Yellow/Black wire). See Figure . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, replace washer pump and retest. See WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP & RESERVOIR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect multifunction switch 10-pin harness connector C441. Measure resistance of White/Black wire between washer pump harness connector C828 terminal No. 1 and multifunction switch harness connector C441 terminal No. 2. See Figure and Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short to ground in White/Black wire between multifunction switch and washer pump. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  4. Measure resistance of Yellow/Black wire between washer pump harness connector C828 terminal No. 2 and multifunction switch harness connector C441 terminal No. 4. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is 2 ohms or less, replace multifunction switch. If resistance is more than 2 ohms, repair open in Yellow/Black wire between washer pump, in-line connector C70, central junction box and multifunction switch.
  5. Operate multifunction switch to intermittent wipe function and check for proper operation. If wipers work properly, go to next step. If wipers do not work properly, run Central Timer Module (CTM) self test. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - FOCUS article.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect CTM 32-pin harness connector. CTM is located in CJB. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Operate multifunction switch to wash and wipe function. Measure voltage between CTM socket C1000 terminals No. 27 and 29. See Figure . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, replace CTM and retest.
  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect CJB 11-pin harness connector C14. CJB is located behind left side of dash. Measure resistance between CTM socket C1000 cavity No. 27 (component side) and CJB harness connector C14 terminal No. 6. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 2 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 2 ohms, repair or replace CJB and retest.
  8. Measure resistance between CTM socket C1000 cavity No. 29 (component side) and CJB harness connector C14 terminal No. 1. If resistance is 2 ohms or less, repair open in White/Black wire between CJB, splice S14 and multifunction switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is more than 2 ohms, repair or replace CJB and retest.
