Passive Anti-Theft System Control Module

  1. Insert Ford Service Function (FSF) card into scan tool. Turn ignition switch from LOCK to RUN position. With scan tool connected, enter PATS, then select SECURITY ACCESS PROCEDURE. This procedure will take 10 minutes to perform. Go to next step.
  2. After security access procedure has been completed, a new menu will be displayed with command options. Select PARAMETER RESET, then CANCEL BACK TO MAIN MENU. If a used replacement PATS control module is installed, select IGNITION KEY CODE ERASE. On all replacement PATS control modules, turn ignition switch to LOCK position, disconnect scan tool, and wait 10 seconds. Go to next step.
  3. Insert first ignition key in ignition switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position for at least 3 seconds. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Insert second ignition key in ignition switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position for at least 3 seconds, then attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle will not start, go to next step. If vehicle starts, turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Program additional ignition keys. See WITH PROGRAMMED KEYS  under PROGRAMMING.
  4. Cycle first, then second ignition key from LOCK to RUN position 2 more times. Attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle will not start, go to next step. If vehicle starts, turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Program additional ignition keys. See WITH PROGRAMMED KEYS  under PROGRAMMING.
  5. Using scan tool and Ford Service Function (FSF) card, select MODEL, YEAR, VEHICLE TYPE, PCM, ACTIVE COMMANDS, KEEP ALIVE MEMORY RESET and CANCEL to return to previous screen. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position, disconnect scan tool and go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition switch from LOCK to RUN position 3 times, staying at RUN for 3 seconds or more each time, and leaving ignition switch in RUN position on third cycle. This initializes Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and PATS module, and stores Parameter and PCM Identifications (PID PCM_ID) into PATS module. THEFT indicator will prove out (illuminate for 3 seconds, then go out) and vehicle will start. Program additional ignition keys. See WITH PROGRAMMED KEYS  under PROGRAMMING.
