Removal & Installation (2.0L)
- Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove fuel tank. See FUEL TANK .
- On vehicles built up to 8/2002, pull the Red fuel tube clip fully toward the fuel pump module. See Fig 1. While holding the Red fuel tube clip against the fuel pump module, firmly pull the fuel supply tube to disconnect it from the fuel pump module. Using Fuel Tank Sender Unit Wrench (310-069), remove fuel pump module retainer ring. See Fig 2. Rotate fuel pump module counterclockwise and lift fuel pump module from fuel tank. See Fig 3. Remove and discard fuel pump module seal.
- On vehicles built from 8/2002 on, remove the Red fuel tube retaining clip from the fuel pump module. See Fig 4. While holding the Red fuel tube clip against the fuel pump module, firmly pull the fuel supply tube to disconnect it from the fuel pump module. Using fuel tank sender unit wrench, remove fuel pump module retainer ring. See Fig 2. Release the fuel pump module locking tangs. See Fig 5.
- On all vehicles, lubricate the fuel tube fittings with clean engine oil. Align the fuel tube fittings and press together until a click is heard and then pull on the fittings to make sure they are fully engaged. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Perform evaporative emission system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSION LEAK CHECK MONITOR
