Pinpoint Test T: Cannot Program The MYKEY™ Feature

  1. T1 CHECK THE UNLIMITED KEY MODE STATUS
NOTE: Make sure the vehicle is not remote started. If the vehicle is remote started, the remote start system may have been programmed as a MyKey™ and therefore the configure/disable function is inoperative. This should not occur if the vehicle is equipped with a Ford approved remote start system. If the remote start system type cannot be verified, it is safer to make sure the vehicle is not remote started.
NOTE: This step is only for vehicles equipped with IKT keys. For vehicles equipped with IA keys, proceed to Step T2.
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Connect the scan tool.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC DataLogger.
    • Review the IPC PID UNL_KEY_MODE.
    • Does IPC PID UNL_KEY_MODE display "Disable"?
  2. T2 DETERMINE THE STATUS OF THE KEY IN QUESTION
NOTE: If the vehicle is equipped with IKT keys, insert it into the ignition lock cylinder. If the vehicle is equipped with IA keys, make sure it is the only IA key inside the vehicle. It does not have to be in the backup transceiver slot.
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Observe the message center.
    • Does the message center display "MYKEY ACTIVE, DRIVE SAFELY"?
    • Yes  : The MyKey™ restricted key is already programmed and is in the ignition lock cylinder (for IA vehicles, the key inside the vehicle is a MyKey™ restricted key). REFER to MYKEY™ PROGRAMMING  if it is desired to configure or disable the MyKey™ feature.

If the concern is that the MyKey™ restricted key cannot be configured or disabled, Go To PINPOINT TEST U: CANNOT CONFIGURE/DISABLE THE MYKEY™ FEATURE .

    • No  : The key in the ignition lock cylinder is an admin key (for IA vehicles, the key inside the vehicle is a MyKey™ restricted key). GO to T3.
  3. T3 REVIEW THE MESSAGE CENTER INFORMATION TO DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF ADMIN KEYS
    • Using the admin key in the ignition lock cylinder (for IA vehicles, make sure the admin key is the only key in the vehicle), press the SETUP button on the message center control buttons until SYSTEM CHECK is displayed.
    • Press RESET to review the message center information to determine how many admin keys are programmed into the IPC.
    • Does the IPC message center indicate there are 2 or more admin keys programmed into the IPC?
    • Yes  : GO to T4.
    • No  : There must always be at least one admin key. The IPC does not allow the last admin key to be programmed into a MyKey™ restricted key. The concern is product characteristic. RELEASE the vehicle to the customer and explain the vehicle operating characteristics.
  4. T4 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC OPERATION
    • Disconnect the IPC connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the IPC connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?
