Pinpoint Test U: Cannot Configure/Disable The MYKEY™ Feature
- U1 CHECK THE UNLIMITED KEY MODE STATUS NOTE: Make sure the vehicle is not remote started. If the vehicle is remote started, the remote start system may have been programmed as a MyKey™ and therefore the configure/disable function is inoperative. This should not occur if the vehicle is equipped with a Ford approved remote start system. If the remote start system type cannot be verified, it is safer to make sure the vehicle is not remote started.NOTE: This step is only for vehicles equipped with IKT keys. For vehicles equipped with IA keys, proceed to Step U2.
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect the scan tool.
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC DataLogger.
- Review the IPC PID UNL_KEY_MODE.
- Does IPC PID UNL_KEY_MODE display "Disable"?
- Yes : GO to U2.
- No : DISABLE the unlimited key mode. REFER to SPARE KEY PROGRAMMING - UNLIMITED KEY MODE .
- U2 DETERMINE THE STATUS OF THE KEY IN QUESTION NOTE: If the vehicle is equipped with IKT keys, insert it into the ignition lock cylinder. If the vehicle is equipped with IA keys, make sure it is the only IA key inside the vehicle. It does not have to be in the backup transceiver slot.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Observe the message center.
- Does the message center display "MYKEY ACTIVE, DRIVE SAFELY"?
- Yes : The MyKey™ restricted key is in the ignition lock cylinder (if an IA vehicle, the IA key in the vehicle is a MyKey™ restricted key). An admin key must be used to configure/disable a MyKey™ restricted key. REFER to MYKEY™ PROGRAMMING if it is desired to configure or disable the MyKey™ feature.
- No : The key in the ignition lock cylinder is an admin key (if an IA vehicle, the IA key in the vehicle is an admin key). GO to U3.
- U3 REVIEW THE MESSAGE CENTER INFORMATION
- Using the admin key in the ignition lock cylinder (for IA vehicles, the admin key must be inside the vehicle but does not have to be in the backup transceiver slot), press the SETUP button on the message center control buttons until SYSTEM CHECK is displayed.
- Press RESET to review the message center information to determine if there is a MyKey™ restricted key programmed into the IPC.
- Does the IPC message center indicate there is a MyKey™ restricted key programmed into the IPC?
- Yes : If the admin key in the vehicle cannot configure/disable the MyKey™ restricted key, GO to U4.
- No : There are no MyKey™ restricted keys programmed. REFER to MYKEY™ PROGRAMMING to program a MyKey™ restricted key.
- U4 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC OPERATION
- Disconnect the IPC connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the IPC connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to INSTRUMENTATION, MESSAGE CENTER, AND WARNING CHIMES . RESET the parameters in both the IPC and the PCM. If equipped with an IKT key, REFER to Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Parameter Reset - Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT). If equipped with an IA key, REFER to PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) PARAMETER RESET - INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) . PROGRAM the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) keys into the new IPC. If equipped with an IKT key, REFER to KEY PROGRAMMING USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT - INTEGRATED KEYHEAD TRANSMITTER (IKT) . If equipped with an IA key, REFER to KEY PROGRAMMING USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT - INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
