Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK FOR Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, perform Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) self-test.
      • Are any Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 
  2. CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH Parameter Identifications (PIDs)
    1. Using a scan tool, view Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    2. Make sure the wiper/washer switch is in the OFF position.
    3. Verify the status of each of the following Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs) is displayed as OFF:
      • Front Wiper Select Switch A (F_WIP_INT_D1)
      • Front Wiper Select Switch B (F_WIP_INT_D2)
      • Front Wiper Select Switch C (F_WIP_INT_D3)
      • Front Wiper Intermittent Data 4 (F_WIP_INT_D4)
      • Front Wiper Intermittent Data 5 (F_WIP_INT_D5)
      • Front Wiper Command Low Speed (F_WIP_SLO_SW)
      • Front Wiper Command High Speed (F_WIPE_FAST_SW)
      • Washer Switch Front (F_WASH_SW)
      • Single Wipe Stroke (WIPE_SINGLE)
      • Rear Wiper Off Switch (R_WIPE_OFF_SW)
      • Rear Wiper Delay 1 (R_WIPE_DEL1)
      • Rear Wiper Delay 2 (R_WIPE_DEL2)
      • Washer Switch Rear (R_WASH_SW)
      • Are all of the Parameter Identifications (PIDs) displayed as OFF? 
  3. CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect the windshield wiper motor connector.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (replace connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - replace terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - replace pins as necessary
    4. Reconnect the windshield wiper motor connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    5. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
      • Is the concern still present? 
      • Yes:  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to WIPER MOTOR - WINDSHIELD .
      • No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
