Pinpoint Test J: Abs (Anti-Lock Brake System) Module Internal Fault Concerns

  1. Refer to: Horn/Cigar Lighter for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The ABS module carries out self tests during operation, the module also monitors various inputs and compares the values to what is expected. If the values received are out of range, are not what is expected, or if any of the self tests fail, the ABS module sets a DTC.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
ABS P0604:94 Internal Control Module Random Access Memory (RAM) Error: Unexpected Operation Sets when the ABS module detects an internal fault.
ABS U3000:41 Control Module: General Checksum Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal fault.
ABS U3000:19 Control Module: Circuit Current Above Threshold Sets when the ABS module detects high or low voltage in one or more of the HCU valve coils.
ABS U3000:04 Control Module: System Internal Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal fault.
ABS U2200:41 Control Module Configuration Memory Corrupt: General Checksum Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal fault.
ABS U3000:47 Control Module: Watchdog/Safety μC Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal fault.
ABS U3000:48 Control Module: Supervision Software Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal fault.
ABS P062F:46 Internal Control Module EEPROM Error: Calibration/Parameter Memory Failure This DTC sets when a value is written by the ABS module is written to EEPROM but the value read back is not correct.
ABS U3000:00 Control Module: No Sub Type Information Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.
ABS U3000:44 Control Module: Data Memory Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.
ABS U3000:46 Control Module: Calibration/Parameter Memory Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.
ABS U3000:49 Control Module: Internal Electronic Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.
ABS U3000:4B Control Module: Over Temperature Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.

    Possible Causes

    • Incorrect sensor input
    • Stuck valve
    • ABS module

  2. J1 GUIDED DIAGNOSTIC QUESTION

    • This step is for vehicles equipped with an EPB system or an EBB unit.

Were you sent here from diagnostics in Parking Brake and Actuation or Power Brake Actuation?

    Yes  GO to  J4
    No  GO to  J2
  3. J2 RECHECK THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) 'S

    • Ignition ON.

    • Clear the ABSDTC s.

    • Ignition OFF.

    • NOTE: If DTC U3000:4B is present, allow the vehicle to cool for a minimum of 30 minutes.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Carry out the ABS self-test.

    • Record the ABS module DTC 's.

Are any of the DTC 's from the Fault Trigger Conditions table present and active in the ABS module?

    Yes  GO to  J3
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  4. J3 VERIFY THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE TO HCU (HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT) FASTENERS

    • Ignition OFF.

Are the fasteners tightened to their correct torque specifications?

    Yes  GO to  J4
No  TIGHTEN all ABS module fasteners to their correct torque specifications. GO to  J4.
  5. J4 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect ABS Module connector, C135.

    • Using a good light source, inspect the electrical connector for the following:

      • Corrosion - install new connector or terminal and clean the module pins
      • Damaged or bent pins - install new terminals or pins
      • Pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
      • Spread terminals - install new terminals as necessary

    • Connect ABS Module connector, C135. Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly..

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA.If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module .
INSTALL a new Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) module.only available in the on-line Service Information RVC:
Generate RVC only works in single-step view Generate RVC requires VIN entry
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
