Test 29A - Open Liftgate Ajar Circuit

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B after each repair.
  1. Disconnect liftgate ajar switch connector. Check condition of connector. Clean or repair connector as necessary. Go to next step.
  2. Connect a jumper wire between liftgate ajar switch connector terminal No. 1 (Tan/Black wire) and chassis ground. Using scan tool, read gate ajar switch status. If scan tool displays GATE AJAR CLOSED, replace liftgate ajar switch. If scan tool does not display GATE AJAR CLOSED, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect jumper wire. Gain access to Body Control Module (BCM), located behind left side knee panel. Check condition of connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  4. Connect a jumper wire between BCM Natural connector terminal No. 2 (Tan/Black wire) and chassis ground. If scan tool displays GATE AJAR CLOSED, repair open in Tan/Black wire. If scan tool does not display GATE AJAR CLOSED, replace BCM.
