Test 68B - Shorted Liftgate Circuit
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Plymouth Voyager, 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager, 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan, 1995 Dodge Caravan, and 1995 Chrysler Town & Country. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Remove liftgate release relay from relay block. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of liftgate release relay connector (Light Green/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 6). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Check resistance of liftgate release relay connector (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Yellow wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Check resistance of liftgate release relay connector (Yellow/Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace liftgate release relay. If resistance is less than 5 ohms and vehicle is not equipped with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire. If vehicle is equipped with RKE, go to next step.NOTE: RKE module may be accessed by carefully prying each end of instrument panel top cover and sliding cover forward to disengage front clips.
- Gain access to RKE module. RKE module is located under instrument panel top cover, behind information center. Disconnect RKE module connectors. Go to next step.
- Check resistance of liftgate release relay connector (Yellow/Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace RKE module. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire.
- Disconnect liftgate release solenoid connector. Check resistance of liftgate release relay connector (Yellow/Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace liftgate release solenoid. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire.
