Adjusting TP Sensor & Throttle Linkage

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Dodge Pickup and 1995 Dodge Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: To prevent damage to linkage rod ends, connect locking-type pliers to rod flat located between lock nuts before loosening lock nuts.
  1. Loosen right-hand-threaded lock nut and left-hand-threaded lock nut on connecting rod. See Fig 2 . Using positive lead of voltmeter, backprobe center wire terminal at TP sensor connector. Connect negative lead of voltmeter to ground.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position without starting engine. Measure voltage with linkage in idle position. Slowly rotate linkage rod (shorten or lengthen) until 0.8-1.2 volts is measured. Without rotating linkage rod, move throttle to WOT position and ensure 3.0-4.1 volts is present. Tighten locking nuts.
CAUTION: DO NOT shorten or lengthen linkage rod length more than .039" (1 mm). If specified voltage can not be met with linkage rod length of 4.945-5.024" (125.6-127.6 mm), replace TP sensor. See Fig 1 .
  3. Turn ignition and engine off. Move accelerator pedal from idle position to WOT position and ensure throttle linkage moves smoothly and does not bind. When accelerator pedal is released, ensure throttle lever stop is against low idle speed screw.
  4. Check WOT operation. Press accelerator pedal approximately half-way to floor. Throttle lever and throttle lever-to-injection pump lever linkage rod should both move. Continue pressing accelerator pedal to floor. If throttle lever break-over is operating properly, throttle lever-to-injection pump lever linkage rod should have stopped moving while throttle lever moves toward rear of engine. Verify correct low idle speed.
