1996 Chevrolet and GMC Truck Light Duty Models and 1996 Oldsmobile Bravada with 7.4L, 5.7L, 5.0L, 4.3L Engines, (VINs J, M, R, W, - RPOs L29, L30, L31, L35, LF6).
SERVICE INFORMATION
The purpose of this bulletin is to announce a Parts Management/Exchange Program for the 1996 VCM (Vehicle Control Module) on the above listed models. This program provides a replacement VCM in exchange for inoperative ones and additional support in diagnosis of the system. Exchange units are obtained by contacting your divisional Technical Assistance Center.
All VCM units are serviced by part number 16208546.
The following procedure is to be used:
Please adhere to the diagnostic procedures found in ATTACHMENT 1 prior to contacting Technical Assistance.
- The Technical Assistance Center will require the following information:
- VIN
- Technician's Name
- Dealer Code
- Diagnostic information gathered during troubleshooting should be recorded on the VCM Exchange Worksheet.
- The technical assistance contact will review the diagnostics performed and may suggest additional testing.
- Once the Technical Assistance Center confirms with the technician that a VCM is needed, they will provide a case reference number and a replacement VCM will be shipped from GMSPO within 48 hours.
- The replaced unit must be shipped back to GMSPO in accordance with the HOT CORE program. The core information tag (for VCM) must be completely filled out and a copy of the repair order (with the case reference number) included to aid in proper analysis.
- If the VCM shipment is not received within 48 hours, contact the Technical Assistance Center.
