Installation Procedure

- Install the backing plate to the axle housing flange.
- Install the backing plate nuts.
Tighten: Tighten the backing plate bolts to 135 N.m (100 lb ft).
- Install the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Shoe Replacement (Except RPO NYS, 1500HD, 25/35 Series) , Park Brake Shoe Replacement (RPO NYS) or Park Brake Shoe Replacement (1500HD/25/35 Series) .
- Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (8.6 Inch, 9.5 Inch Axles) or Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (9.75 Inch Axle) in Rear Drive Axle.
- Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
- Install the rotor. Refer toBrake Rotor Replacement - Rear (Except Dual Wheels or NYS) , Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear (W/Dual Wheels) or Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear (W/NYS) .
- Install the park brake cable (2) to the lever (1).
- Perform the following procedure to install the cable (2) to the backing plate (4):
- Compress the spring (3) by pushing towards the lever (1).
- Route the cable (2) through the slot in the backing plate.
- Push the cable housing into the backing plate (4) until the locking tabs snap into place.
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the safety stands.
- Lower vehicle.
- Enable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Enabling the Park Brake Cable Automatic Adjuster in Park Brake.
