Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2002 GMC Yukon XL, 2002 GMC Yukon, 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2002 Cadillac Escalade EXT. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Record the 10-digit STID number from the label on the VIU module.
- Install the VIU to the bracket.
- Connect the electrical connectors.
- Install the screws (1) securing the VIU to the bracket.
Tighten: Tighten the screws to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
- Install the IP trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) UPPER .
- Press and hold the white dot button until the OnStar® status LED turns from green to red, and back again to green.
- Install a scan tool. Use the ID information menu to access the new STID number.
- Move the vehicle to an open area that is away from tall buildings and with a clear view of unobstructed sky. Allow the vehicle to run for 10 minutes.
- Press the blue OnStar® button to connect to the OnStar® call center.
- Tell the advisor that this vehicle has received a new VIU.
- Ask the advisor to add the new STID to update the customer's account.
- Follow any additional instructions from the OnStar® advisor.
- Ask the advisor to activate the OnStar® personal calling feature, if available.

IMPORTANT:
After replacing the VIU, you must reconfigure the OnStar® system. Failure to reconfigure the system will result in an additional customer visit for repair.
